Jamie Carragher Identifies Liverpool’s New “Favourite” for Managerial Role as Ruben Amorim’s Chances Dim for Replacing Jurgen Klopp

Jamie Carragher has identified the frontrunner to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, as Ruben Amorim’s chances of taking over from the German this summer are deemed improbable.

At the conclusion of the season, Klopp will step away from his position after nearly nine years leading at Anfield. Liverpool have the chance to finish strong, as they are currently tied with Arsenal for the top spot in the Premier League.

Manchester City, the reigning champions, trail by two points, having played one game fewer.

Initially favourite to succeed Klopp, Xabi Alonso has announced he will remain with Bayer Leverkusen, the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions, next season.

While Sporting manager Ruben Amorim was considered a potential option, David Ornstein of The Athletic suggests it’s improbable he’ll take over from Klopp this summer.

“West Ham in talks over ambitious move for Ruben Amorim if David Moyes goes. Julen Lopetegui also assessed but Amorim current top target. #WHUFC said to appeal but unclear where they sit among 39yo’s options. Liverpool looks unlikely,” tweeted Ornstein.

Carragher, the ex-Liverpool defender, has responded to the news by claiming that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is currently the leading candidate for the position.

“Richard Hughes wanted De Zerbi at Bournemouth, so he must be the favourite if this is true,” tweeted Carragher.

“Ornstein doesn’t get much wrong tbf!”

De Zerbi has earned acclaim for his dynamic brand of football since taking the reins at Brighton in 2022, transitioning from Shakhtar Donetsk to the Premier League.

Under his leadership, the Seagulls achieved a notable seventh-place finish last season, marking their inaugural qualification for European competition.

However, the current season has posed greater challenges for Brighton following the departures of Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister in the summer transfer window, the latter of whom joined Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

Injuries have plagued Brighton throughout the campaign, contributing to their current 10th place standing in the Premier League.

Despite their struggles, De Zerbi has drawn interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Yet, Liverpool’s managerial search extends beyond De Zerbi, with Arne Slot of Feyenoord, Gary O’Neil of Wolves, and Julian Nagelsmann of Germany also among the names linked with the vacancy.
