Liverpool in Pole Position to Secure High-Profile as Mo Salah Replacement Amid Helpful Contract Concern

Liverpool appear to be leading the race to secure the services of Federico Chiesa, the Juventus winger, potentially filling the void left by Mo Salah’s departure to Anfield.

Last summer, Salah was subject to intense speculation about a move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ittihad making a substantial £150 million offer. However, Liverpool promptly dismissed the bid, recognising the importance of retaining their prolific goal scorer.

Salah has swiftly regained his composure amidst swirling exit speculations, demonstrating his prowess with 24 goals and 13 assists across 38 appearances this season.

Despite not hitting his peak in front of the net, Salah remains Liverpool’s leading goal scorer.

However, as Liverpool’s director, Michael Edwards, returns to helm, he faces a significant dilemma this summer with Salah’s contract dwindling to its final year.

Should lucrative offers, notably a £100 million bid from Saudi interests or more, materialise, Edwards may contemplate selling Salah to bolster squad areas under the new manager’s purview.

As per reports from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Liverpool are actively eyeing Chiesa as a potential successor to Salah.

Currently engaged in contract negotiations with Juventus, Chiesa’s existing deal is slated to expire in the summer of 2025.

Federico Chiesa on Liverpool Shortlist

At present, the two parties have not reached an agreement on salary terms. If the Italy ace opts for a new challenge elsewhere, Liverpool are set to be the frontrunner in presenting an offer.

Chiesa is aware that Liverpool could offer him a higher wage, surpassing his current £150,000 per week.

Additionally, other clubs may join the pursuit for Chiesa should he indicate he won’t extend his contract. Manchester United and Newcastle United have also shown interest in the 26-year-old.

Nonetheless, Liverpool currently hold the strongest position to secure a deal.

The specific financial details regarding Liverpool’s potential payment for Chiesa are not disclosed. Nevertheless, given his contract situation, Liverpool wouldn’t need to spend excessively.
