Carlo Ancelotti Reveals Why Jurgen Klopp Decided to Leave Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp decided to end his nearly nine-year tenure at Liverpool, marking the conclusion of his time at Anfield. Carlo Ancelotti has shared his perspective on the German’s departure.

Carlo Ancelotti attributes Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool to the “excessive burdens” of managing at an elite level.

Klopp, who announced his departure at the start of the year, experienced an emotional farewell after his team’s final victory of the season. This concluded nearly nine years at Anfield, during which he led the team to Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Known for his intense style of football and passionate touchline demeanor, the former Borussia Dortmund coach has made a significant impact.

Ancelotti likened Klopp’s departure to that of Arrigo Sacchi, who left AC Milan in the 1990s due to the overwhelming demands of the job.

He told il Giornale : “I don’t see any particular news, this has always been our job but the Klopp case is significant.

“The continuous pressure, the load of responsibilities become excessive burdens, the obsession takes over. It also happened to Arrigo Sacchi.”

This is backed up by Klopp’s admission, made when his departure was announced, that he no longer had the energy to continue at Merseyside, considering the demands of staying competitive at the highest level.

He said: “It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

“After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth.”

Ancelotti also suggested that relationships can reach a natural conclusion, making an exit preferable to avoid a contentious departure. In his final weeks, Klopp publicly clashed with Mohamed Salah during a draw with West Ham.

“When relationships break down, not human ones but professional ones, it is better to leave without controversies and arguments,” said the Italian manager.
