Liverpool Legend Steve Nicol Says Premier League Manager Succeeding Jurgen Klopp “Makes Complete Sense”

The prevailing viewpoint among Liverpool fans is a preference for Xabi Alonso to take over as their next manager.

Regardless of the summer’s developments, Jurgen Klopp’s departure will undoubtedly leave a significant void within the team, constituting the most substantial setback.

The incoming man won’t be Jurgen Klopp, yet it might not be Xabi Alonso either.

Hence, the question arises: who would garner acceptance from Liverpool supporters as the next manager, should it not be the favored figure currently excelling at Bayer Leverkusen?

Steve Nicol has made it clear that he would back Roberto De Zerbi as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, as relayed to ESPN.

The Liverpool icon further emphasised that the prospect of the Brighton manager arriving at Anfield “makes complete sense,” citing the 44-year-old’s tactical approach.

Brighton, vying for another European berth this season, adopt a possession-based style of play, prioritizing building from the back, albeit without the same intense pressing as Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Steve Nicol appears content with the prospect of incorporating some of that fluid playing style onto Merseyside.

“I don’t have a problem with that, I like the way he plays the game,” said Nicol about De Zerbi.

“He is going to inherit players who want to play and have been successful at playing not unlike the way he likes to play the game.

“So, from that point of view, I think it makes complete sense.”

Will Jurgen Klopp End on a High?

The recent loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup remains a painful memory. It effectively extinguished any hopes of achieving a quadruple, leaving disappointment in its wake.

Nevertheless, opportunities still abound in both the Premier League and the Europa League. Liverpool’s dominance in the latter competition suggests a strong claim to the title, given their consistent ability to outclass opponents.

Yet, they cannot afford to be complacent, especially in the Premier League race. Surrendering the top spot to Arsenal serves as a stark reminder that the battle for the league title is far from over. Liverpool must brace themselves for a fierce contest ahead.
