Liverpool Identify South American Star as ‘Priority’ Target, £52m Deal Could Be Done

Liverpool’s focus for summer signings is on securing Eintracht Frankfurt standout Willian Pacho, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

With Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure from his managerial role at the season’s end, the Reds are actively seeking his successor.

Initially eyeing Xavi Alonso, Liverpool’s pursuit hit a snag as the Spaniard opted to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. Ruben Amorim also emerged as a contender, but the club ultimately chose not to pursue him further.

Now, it seems that Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has become Liverpool’s top target, with reports suggesting they are nearing a deal to appoint him as Klopp’s successor.

According to Di Marzio on his website, amidst the Merseyside club’s hunt for a new manager, they’re also actively looking to strengthen their defence by exploring the market.

The journalist claims that Liverpool are interested in acquiring a new left-footed defender and has identified Pacho as a top priority option.

Frankfurt, having recently acquired the Ecuadorian player, holds a strong bargaining position and seeks a substantial fee, approximately £52m, to release their star player this summer.

As Joel Matip’s departure from the club as a free agent becomes increasingly probable, and with Virgil van Dijk approaching 33 years of age, Liverpool recognise the necessity of reinforcing their defensive line by signing a new center-back.

Pacho possesses versatility, capable of playing both left-back and center-back positions. He exhibits qualities such as speed, strength, aerial prowess, comfort in playing out from the back, and defensive efficiency.

Considering these attributes, acquiring Pacho could be a strategic move for Liverpool to strengthen their defensive capabilities. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a definitive move to secure the South American player in the upcoming transfer window.
