Two Players Arne Slot Could Bring to Liverpool If He Succeeds Jurgen Klopp

Arne Slot is emerging as a top candidate for the role of Liverpool’s next manager. After Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim, Liverpool fans are now turning their attention to Arne Slot.

Slot, currently the chief of Feyenoord, is now being considered as the prime candidate to lead Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp departs. His departure will leave a significant void, putting pressure on Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to make the right choice.

While Slot may not be a household name among Kopites, he gained attention last summer when he was a contender for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial position, ultimately filled by Ange Postecoglu.

Slot has established a commendable reputation for himself, particularly notable for his accomplishments at Feyenoord, albeit outside the limelight of the Premier League and in a less acclaimed division. Nonetheless, despite operating within modest financial constraints, he has excelled in his role at the Rotterdam club.

During his debut season, he steered Feyenoord to the finals of the inaugural Europa Conference League, only to be thwarted by AS Roma managed by Jose Mourinho.

Subsequently, in the following season, Feyenoord clinched the Dutch championship title, finishing a notable seven points ahead of their closest rival, PSV Eindhoven.

Presently, in the ongoing campaign, they hold the second position in the league standings, complemented by their recent victory in the KNVB Cup, achieved through a 2-0 win over NEC.

Slot’s tenure at Feyenoord has earned him immense admiration from the club’s supporters. Should he decide to depart De Kuip for Anfield, he would follow in the footsteps of Dirk Kuyt, who made the same journey in 2006.

Kuyt, a beloved figure among Liverpool fans, contributed significantly to the team’s successes, including a runner-up finish in the Champions League and Premier League, as well as a League Cup triumph in 2012.

Before taking the helm at Feyenoord, Slot served as a coach at his childhood club before assuming the role of ABO Den Haag’s head coach.

In a previous interview with the Liverpool Echo, he highlighted the talents of Lutsharel Geertruida and Orkun Kokcu, although the latter eventually departed for Benfica last summer.

“I am a Feyenoord man and they are doing very well at the moment,” Kuyt said. “They have a very good manager in Arne Slot and some of the younger guys like Kokcu and Geertruida are knocking on the door and playing very well.

“It won’t take long for the interest of top European teams to be there for them. I hope Liverpool is interested in Feyenoord players, and I am an example it can work!”

Geertruida, a product of the Feyenoord youth system, showcases versatility as a defender, adept in both right-back and centre-back positions. Throughout this season, the 23-year-old has participated in 43 matches, contributing seven goals and four assists to his team’s endeavors. Moreover, he boasts seven international caps for the Netherlands.

In the previous season, Kokcu played a pivotal role in Feyenoord’s triumph in the Dutch league, scoring 12 goals. His remarkable performance attracted the attention of Benfica, leading to a summer transfer for a sum reaching €30 million.

Since joining Benfica, the 23-year-old midfielder has showcased his attacking prowess, tallying five goals and 10 assists across 39 appearances. Additionally, Kokcu has represented Turkey on 26 occasions.
