Liverpool Reportedly Leading the Race for January Exit-bound Midfielder

Liverpool is emerging as a top contender for a January acquisition from Serie A side.

Despite expectations of a subdued transfer period due to their leading position in the Premier League, there are ongoing speculations about Jurgen Klopp’s interest in bolstering the team’s roster.

A latest report from the Italian media outlet, Tuttosport, suggests that Liverpool are ‘in the front row’  to secure the services of Genoa midfielder, Morten Frendrup. This development seems to put Juventus, who also showed interest in the Danish player, at a disadvantage.

The allure of Frendrup appears to have captivated Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy, positioning the club at the forefront of the pursuit. Additionally, apart from a potential January move from Genoa, the 22-year-old is also touted as a rising talent to monitor for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Big names such as Joao Palhinha are being linked with Liverpool, but Frendrup would align better with the Reds’ brand.

Frendrup, an underrated talent, has been making waves at Genoa since 2022 and represents Denmark at the U21 level.

Klopp values players who are eager to learn and heed his guidance. Many of Liverpool players may not be top-tier in skill, but their dedication and receptiveness stand out.

Genoa’s manager, Alberto Gilardino, vouched for Frendrup’s attitude, especially after a significant 4-1 victory against Roma in September. In an interview with TuttomercatoWeb, Gilardino praised his midfielder.

“He was heroic in the way he played and ran. He’s got room for improvement but he’s doing really great things. It must continue like this. He’s a very smart guy, he does what you ask of him and that’s gratifying for a coach.”

A midfielder possessing the ability to run effectively, shows potential for growth, displays intelligence, and consistently meets expectations on the field would seemingly be a perfect fit for Klopp’s style.

Should Liverpool be in the market for an additional midfielder this winter, Frendrup might be a suitable consideration. However, based on current indications, it appears unlikely that they are actively seeking one. Yet, in the unpredictable world of football, one can never be entirely certain.
