Liverpool Back in the Race for 22-year-old Summer Target as Price Drops Ahead of January Transfer Window

Liverpool ary currently evaluating their choices for the upcoming January transfer window.

While they made notable signings in the summer, the club remains on the lookout for more opportunities as the new year approaches. Specifically, the club is focusing on bolstering their defence due to ongoing injury issues.

The search for a defensive midfielder is also a topic of discussion. While Wataru Endo is becoming more integrated into the team, the desire for another player in the mold of Fabinho persists.

Recent report suggest that Liverpool are revisiting their interest in 22-year-old Manu Koné. This interest isn’t new; it was initially reported during the summer. Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring Koné’s situation, and Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly shown interest by adding him to their target list.

Koné was previously a high profile target for Liverpool. However, the narrative surrounding his potential transfer has been inconsistent. There were periods when Liverpool’s interest seemed strong, followed by phases where it waned, only to reignite later.

It’s worth noting that Koné’s contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach runs until 2026. Nonetheless, earlier reports indicated a favorable asking price for the player.

Back in August, Christian Falk reported in his Daily Briefing: “There’s Manu Koné to consider. I heard Gladbach is also expecting an offer from Liverpool soon because, after his injury, he’s become cheaper. Before, a suitor would have to pay about $54m (£43m), now you can get him, perhaps, for about $38m (£30m).”

Sky Germany reported in October that Koné aims to depart the Bundesliga club by next summer, at the latest. However, reporter Florian Plettenberg stated that Liverpool are not a subject of discussion regarding the midfielder’s potential transfer destination.

There has been ongoing speculation about Liverpool’s involvement in this transfer situation. With recent updates, it appears the saga is far from over.
