Liverpool Told to Sign £113m Striker and Move Darwin Nunez Out Wide

In the final stretch of the Premier League season, Mo Salah’s time at Liverpool appears to be winding down, with Steve Nicol suggesting an ideal replacement for the iconic Egyptian.

Salah has previously flirted with leaving Liverpool, notably last summer when a lucrative £150m bid from Saudi Arabia tempted him. Despite this, he ultimately chose to remain with the club. However, with Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure, many players, including Salah, may reassess their futures at Liverpool.

Richard Hughes is advocating for new contracts for Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk. Nevertheless, the speculation persists, with both Steve Nicol and Craig Burley predicting Salah’s potential departure this summer.

Mohamed Salah Likely to Depart Liverpool Either This Summer or Next

Certainly, if he intends to remain, he will need to sign a new contract since his current agreement is set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

However, Liverpool may opt to replace the former Chelsea player. Speaking to ESPN FC, former Liverpool player Nicol was questioned about the one player he would recruit if money were no obstacle for Liverpool this summer. He suggested that with Salah’s probable departure, Victor Osimhen would be his choice.

Nicol believes that the Nigerian and Napoli standout would be fantastic in a Liverpool shirt. He further suggested that Osimhen’s arrival would prompt Darwin Nunez to shift to the left wing, a position he occupied during his time at Benfica before joining Liverpool.

“The fact that Salah is going, Osimhen. Osimhen would be fantastic for Liverpool. The middle of the park? Well we’ve signed Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, it means Nunez would have to start out wide,” he said.

Even if Liverpool meet Napoli’s asking price, it might be too late, as reports suggest Osimhen is close to joining PSG this summer to replace Kylian Mbappe.

However, if the move falls through, Liverpool would need to pay Osimhen’s £113m release clause for Napoli to agree to the transfer, which seems unlikely.
