Boost for Liverpool as Club Reportedly Eye Replacement for Reds’ Managerial Target

Reports suggest that the former Chelsea coach is among the candidates Sporting has in mind for potential recruitment.

Ruben Amorim has once again downplayed reports linking him to the managerial position at Liverpool.

Currently at the helm of Sporting CP, Amorim is increasingly seen as the leading contender to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the conclusion of the season.

This follows the decision of former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has guided the team to the cusp of securing their first Bundesliga title.

Under Amorim’s leadership, Sporting CP have clinched three significant titles, with aspirations for both the Portuguese league and a domestic double this season.

Their immediate focus lies on the Tac de Portugal semi-final second leg against arch-rivals Benfica, where they hold a 2-1 aggregate advantage.

Before the match, Amorim emphasised his dedication to Sporting, ensuring his players are aware of his commitment. He stated:

“No [impact], because that is also part of the players’ lives. Everyone thinks a lot about them. If the players are involved with other clubs, perhaps. Not when it’s the coach.

“The coach is Sporting’s coach and they know they want to win titles for Sporting, just like me.”

Sporting might be preparing for the possibility of Amorim departing after this season, as per reports from The Times (relayed by Liverpool World). The club have reportedly included Anthony Barry in their list of potential replacements.

Barry is currently a member of Thomas Tuchel’s coaching staff at Bayern Munich. With Tuchel set to leave Bayern at the end of the season, Barry is expected to follow suit.

Aged 37, Barry began his coaching journey at Wigan Athletic before joining Chelsea under then-manager Frank Lampard. His collaboration with Tuchel began at Stamford Bridge.

Barry has also been part of the coaching staff for the Republic of Ireland and Belgium. Presently, he serves as an assistant coach for Portugal.
