Andoni Iraola Speaks on Reported Richard Hughes’ Plan to Bring Some Bournemouth Players to Liverpool

Richard Hughes has been appointed as Liverpool’s new sporting director and is set to join the club upon the conclusion of the current season.

The impending departure of Jurgen Klopp marks the beginning of a new chapter at Anfield. However, the transformation extends beyond the managerial realm, with the return of former sporting director Michael Edwards generating significant anticipation among fans and stakeholders alike.

At 44 years old, Edwards is making a comeback to Anfield in the capacity of CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group. Among his initial directives is the appointment of Richard Hughes as Liverpool’s sporting director.

Hughes, currently serving as the technical director for Bournemouth, will transition to his new role with the Reds in June.

The ex-Scotland international expressed deep pride in being offered the chance at Liverpool and acknowledges the weight of expectations and responsibilities accompanying the role.

According to recent rumors, Liverpool are poised for a significant summer transfer window, with Hughes gearing up to dive into the action.

When questioned, Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola couldn’t speculate on whether Hughes might seek to bring some Cherries players to Anfield.

“I don’t know what they will do,” the Spaniard admitted to the Bournemouth Echo. “I think as long as they meet the requirements the club sets and the offer is good for everyone, this is football.

“I don’t know what is going to happen in the market. It is too early to talk about this. The summer is still far away. We have a lot of things to play for. But whenever the market is open, there are always chances for these things to happen, yes.”

Liverpool have previously expressed interest in Bournemouth players such as Lloyd Kelly and recent signing Alex Scott. Dominic Solanke, who joined the Cherries in 2019, is having a remarkable season, having scored 15 goals so far, surpassing the goal tallies of players like Bukayo Saka and Son Heung-min.
