Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool might consider hiring one of Xabi Alonso alternatives if a potential transfer for the former Reds player doesn’t come to fruition.

Reports suggest that Liverpool have already extended an offer to Alonso, with negotiations yielding positive results for a contract running until 2027. However, despite Liverpool’s efforts, competition from clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid casts uncertainty on Alonso’s potential arrival at Anfield.
Recent reports from Gianluca Di Marzio indicate that Bayern Munich have surged ahead of Liverpool in the pursuit of Alonso’s services.
In the event of Liverpool failing to secure Alonso, Jamie Carragher speculates that the club may intensify their interest in Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim.
Carragher Believes Liverpool Could Look at Amorim
During an interview with CBS Sports, the Liverpool icon was questioned about potential additions to his former team’s roster if they are unable to secure Alonso.
“Well, I think it’s not who’s on the list for me, I think of who’d be on the list for Liverpool and what they would be looking at would be maybe the guy at Sporting Lisbon, Amorim,” Carragher said.
“He’s been in that role, he’s been talked about as a young, up-and-coming coach, great pedigree and doing a really brilliant job right now. He’s top of the Portuguese league, so I think he’s the one that seems to be getting linked with Liverpool, along with Xabi Alonso, so it feels like it’s one of those two.”
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Amorim has attracted attention from Liverpool. Known for his prowess, the Portuguese manager possesses a £26 million release clause in his Sporting CP contract and has previously been linked with a move to England.
Last summer, both Chelsea and Tottenham were rumored to be eyeing the 39-year-old coach.
Amorim’s success with Sporting CP has been evident as he has guided them to the top of the Primeira Liga standings.
While many Liverpool supporters express a desire for Alonso’s return to Anfield, it appears prudent for the club to explore alternative options.
Considering Amorim’s reputation as one of the most promising young coaches in Europe, Liverpool could find him to be an appealing prospect.
