“Want to Keep” – Ben Jacobs Drops Transfer Update on Liverpool Attacking Hero Amid Exit Links

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool want to retain Luis Diaz beyond the summer transfer window.

The Reds are set to focus on new signings this summer, with Arne Slot keen to make a swift impact in the market. However, retaining key players is also crucial.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are all nearing the end of their contracts next season, and none have signed extensions yet, which raises some concerns.

Reports have swirled about the futures of Salah and Luis Diaz, with Saudi Pro League clubs potentially targeting Salah and a move to Barcelona being speculated for Diaz.

In an interview with Caught Offside, Jacobs mentioned that Liverpool plan to keep Diaz at Anfield, viewing him as an important player moving forward.

“Liverpool want to keep Luis Diaz. It’s really as simple as that. Diaz is contracted until 2027 and there are no plans to sell him this summer despite ongoing links with Barcelona.

“Diaz would like to play in Spain one day, as his father has hinted at in public in recent months, but that’s more a long-term goal.

“He has given no indication he wants to leave Liverpool now, nor can Barcelona afford him without significant outgoings first due to Financial Fair Play issues.”

Despite some criticism this season, keeping Diaz at Liverpool remains the best option this summer.

The criticism stems mainly from his inconsistent end product. The Colombia international is full of energy and skill, but often falls short with the final pass or finish.

However, Diaz still managed to score 13 goals in all competitions during the 2023/24 season and recorded five assists in the Premier League, showcasing his talent.

As Jacobs notes, it’s likely that Diaz will eventually move to Spain, with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid being appealing destinations for many South American players. Nevertheless, another season at Anfield is anticipated.
