First Liverpool Player Decides He ‘Wants to Quit’ Club Days After Arne Slot Announcement

Movement in the transfer front is already evident for a Liverpool player with Arne Slot’s arrival.

The departure of a Liverpool player under Arne Slot’s tenure seems imminent, with the Dutchman’s appointment just days old. Arne Slot, set to replace Jurgen Klopp since April reports, received a heartfelt farewell from Klopp at Anfield, even crafting a chant for his successor.

Officially announced as Liverpool’s new manager on Monday, Slot is slated to assume his role on June 1, pending a work permit.

Thiago Alcantara, Adrian, and Joel Matip have also departed Liverpool alongside Klopp, with another potential exit looming.

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Caoimhin Kelleher is eyeing a move this summer.

Having made 26 starts across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, Kelleher experienced his most significant playing time yet.

His standout moment came during the Carabao Cup victory, where he played every minute and secured a clean sheet in the final against Chelsea at Wembley in February.

However, Alisson Becker reclaimed his position as the starting goalkeeper upon his return from injury in April, signaling his likely continuation as the first choice under Slot.

Kelleher’s potential role would then shift to being a backup for the Brazilian goalkeeper. However, reports suggest that he harbours aspirations to secure a starting position elsewhere.

Upon the reopening of the transfer window, he is anticipated to actively pursue a transfer away from his current club.

At 25 years old, Kelleher, originally recruited from Ringmahon Rangers’ academy, remains under contract until 2026.

Liverpool are reportedly seeking a transfer fee in the vicinity of £20 million for Kelleher, who became a member of the club at the age of 16.

While specific clubs expressing interest in Kelleher are not mentioned in the report, it’s noteworthy that a potential move to Wolves was halted by Klopp last summer.

However, it appears unlikely that Klopp will intervene this time, suggesting that one of Slot’s initial decisions may involve acquiring a new second-choice goalkeeper.
