Liverpool to ‘Bite Arsenal’s Arm Off’ With Edwards Backed to Snap Up £50m Star Arteta Could Replace

Liverpool have been urged to swiftly secure the services of an Arsenal standout, envisioned to play a pivotal role in the team’s setup under Arne Slot.

Amid speculation of Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of upgrades for the upcoming season, the Reds are set for a promising chapter with Dutch tactician Slot expected to take the helm following Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure.

An emotional farewell for Klopp is on the horizon, with tears expected to flow as he bids adieu after Liverpool’s clash with Wolves this Sunday at Anfield.

In the upcoming 2024/25 season, one of the major points of interest will be how Feyenoord’s departing coach, Slot, performs in his new position, particularly considering the substantial role he is stepping into.

To ensure a smooth transition post-Klopp, Michael Edwards has returned to the scene, taking on the role of CEO of football, positioning him at the helm of operations at Anfield.

Although Slot’s official start date isn’t until July 1, he and Edwards have already engaged in discussions regarding their summer transfer strategies.

Slot has conveyed to Edwards his desire for the club to focus on strengthening three key areas: central defence, central midfield, and left-back.

Liverpool Urged to Move for Arsenal Striker

There’s a viewpoint suggesting that Slot might seek to bolster their attack amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of key players like Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz.

The potential departure of Nunez, hinted at by his actions on social media, could leave a significant void in Slot’s frontline.

One suggestion for Slot’s new manager is to consider pursuing Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, who might be displaced from his current role by Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Despite not being a prolific scorer, Jesus is seen as a viable option to reinforce Slot’s attacking options, given Arteta’s quest for a new striker after Jesus managed only eight goals in 35 appearances this season.

While Arteta may prefer to offload Eddie Nketiah, reports indicate that a substantial offer for Jesus could sway Slot’s decision.

Glen Johnson, a former player for Liverpool and Chelsea, believes that both clubs would benefit from securing a deal if Jesus becomes available.

“I would be surprised if Arsenal do actually want to sell him because I think that would be crazy. If he does become available, either Chelsea or Liverpool should bite their arm off,” Johnson said.

“He’s not going to get you 25-goals-a-season, but he’s going to be a big part of the team and he works his socks off. In front of goal, he’s going to score a lot of goals at a club like that where he’ll get a lot of opportunities.

“If Arsenal do let him go, then Chelsea and Liverpool should absolutely jump at the chance.”

Although he hasn’t scored many goals this season, the 27-year-old has an impressive career record, with 142 goals in 387 games, equating to a goal every 2.7 appearances.
