Liverpool Have Entered the Competition for a £128 Million Youngster Alongside Two PL Rivals

Liverpool are considering their options as the summer transfer window approaches.

The upcoming summer promises to be a hectic period for Liverpool as they prepare for the dawn of a new era sans Jurgen Klopp.

Not only are the club actively seeking a suitable successor for their revered manager, but they are also deeply engrossed in discussions regarding potential new player acquisitions.

During the previous summer transfer window, Liverpool prioritised the rebuilding of their midfield, prompted by the departure of five senior players, including their former captain, vice-captain, and primary No.6 choice.

While the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were notable, the Reds continue to be linked with several other prospective signings.

The club’s pursuit for reinforcement extends to securing another defensive midfielder, with a recent report originating from Portugal linking Liverpool with Benfica’s João Neves.

O Jogo has recently disclosed that the Premier League contenders are now actively involved in the pursuit of a promising 19-year-old talent, alongside Manchester United and Chelsea, who have expressed interest for a considerable duration, as relayed through Sport Witness.

Alongside these English giants, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also indicated their interest in the youngster, notable for his consistent presence in every match for Benfica this season.

As of now, Neves remains contracted to Benfica until 2028, with a substantial €120 million (£102m) release clause safeguarding his position within the club.

There have been reports that Benfica might contemplate elevating this release clause to €150 million (£128m) to further fortify their stance.

There haven’t been any formal inquiries from Liverpool or other Premier League teams regarding Neves at this time. Nonetheless, the growing interest in him could set the stage for an intriguing summer, particularly if any of the clubs express willingness to invest significantly in the 19-year-old.

Liverpool’s contention for the Premier League title positions them favourably against competitors like United and Chelsea, both of whom have faced challenges in keeping pace with the league leaders this season.
