Michael Edwards Wants to Sign £85m ‘Very Special’ Player, Liverpool Scouts Heavily Impressed

Liverpool’s search for their next manager continues, but the groundwork for the upcoming summer transfer window is already laid out.

After nine years at the helm, Jurgen Klopp will be stepping down at the end of the season, prompting the club to chart a new course. Michael Edwards has been named the club’s CEO, while Richard Hughes joins as the sporting director.

Although their official roles commence after the season’s conclusion, it’s likely that Edwards and Hughes have already begun their behind-the-scenes work.

Liverpool’s plans for the summer may include bolstering their midfield, with scouts closely monitoring promising talent from Ukraine.

Georgiy Sudakov has caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouts, with journalist Artur Petrosyan reporting that the club is closely monitoring his development. Over the past year, Liverpool’s scouts have been impressed by Sudakov’s progress and potential.

Despite interest from other clubs like Napoli, Arsenal, and Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk rejected a £34m bid for Sudakov during the January transfer window.

Liverpool remain in contention for his signature as they continue to assess their options for the upcoming transfer period.

Liverpool made significant investments last summer, acquiring four new midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai. Each of them showcased impressive performances throughout their debut season.

In addition to these acquisitions, Liverpool boast a homegrown talent in Curtis Jones, who has emerged as a pivotal player under Klopp’s management.

The club’s academy continues to churn out top-quality prospects, with Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark primed for potential regular roles in the upcoming season.

While Liverpool’s intentions regarding further midfield signings remain uncertain, there is speculation about their interest in a young midfielder expected to command a hefty price tag of around £85m (€100m).

Fabrizio Romano has lauded this prospect as “very special” talent, hinting at the possibility of him becoming a top target for Liverpool next summer.

The Reds are anticipated to finalise their transfer strategies following the appointment of a new manager. Nonetheless, under the stewardship of Edwards, proactive scouting efforts are likely already underway within the club.
