Liverpool Open to Let 25-year-old Star Leave the Club for Around £30m This Summer

Journalist James Pearce has suggested that Liverpool may face challenges in retaining Caoimhin Kelleher, as he discussed the potential price tag the club would seek for the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper.

Kelleher showcased his talent during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup triumph at Wembley on Sunday. Notably, he began the match with a standout save against Cole Palmer and continued to make crucial stops throughout the game, ultimately contributing to Liverpool’s victory with an extra-time goal from Virgil van Dijk.

His exceptional performance has reignited discussions about his future at Anfield, particularly considering his role behind Alisson Becker in the goalkeeping hierarchy over recent seasons.

Liverpool May Sell Caoimhin Kelleher for £30 Million

Alisson stands as one of the best goalkeepers globally, showcasing remarkable skill and prowess. Meanwhile, Kelleher has been demonstrating his own exceptional talent, asserting himself as a formidable presence. However, at 25 years old, there arises concern that he may seek a transfer in the near future.

In a conversation with The Athletic Football Podcast, James Pearce hinted at the likelihood of Kelleher’s departure, especially if a substantial bid in the realm of £30 million is tabled.

“I would be surprised if Liverpool are able to keep hold of Kelleher for another season. He would’ve gone last summer, I think, if the right offer had come in. But there was a lot of interest. There was loan offers that Liverpool were never, ever going to agree to because it just made no sense financially,” he said.

“And then, of course, I think there was a £15 million bid from Forest in January that again, was far too late in the window and didn’t come close to meeting their valuation. I think Liverpool view him as probably worth double that. But there is an acceptance you can only keep hold of someone like him so long.”

Based on his consistent performances whenever he’s been called upon, there’s a strong possibility that several clubs are seriously contemplating a £30 million bid for Kelleher this summer.

Liverpool, with their firsthand experience, understand the significance of a dependable goalkeeper. Alisson’s arrival unquestionably transformed their team dynamics. Consequently, lesser-ranked teams may be pondering whether Kelleher could replicate such an influence.

Undoubtedly, if his impressive performance in the Carabao Cup final is indicative of his future potential, a £30 million valuation for him would be considered a steal by many.
