Liverpool legend John Barnes has warned Jurgen Klopp against hastily rushing back a first-team player, as the club look to clinch another Premier League title.
John Barnes believes the Premier League title race will continue to offer unexpected developments.
Following a challenging previous season, Liverpool have regained momentum this season, emerging as formidable challengers. Their recent form includes a five-match unbeaten streak, highlighted by a decisive 2-0 victory over Burnley on Boxing Day.
But former England and Liverpool star Barnes has warned the Anfield faithful it’s still all to play for. “When February and March comes, you’ll see the title race really take shape,” he said.
“Not so much in terms of numbers and positioning. But in terms of who’s playing well, who’s fit, which team’s players are in form, whose players are out of form but they can still get results.
“I’d be very surprised if, come February-March – the business end of the season – if these three teams aren’t the top three, as they are now, but more comfortably.”

Liverpool have missed Alexis Mac Allister since he sustained an injury on December 6 during a match against Sheffield United. The midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in the summer transfer window, is close to making a full recovery.
Barnes, however, has urged Jurgen Klopp not to rush back the 25-year-old. “We have Curtis Jones – we’ve got other players who can play in that position,” added Barnes, who won two league titles with Liverpool.
“We’ve still got Dominik Szoboszlai who can play anywhere. And we also have Wataru Endo – and Harvey Elliott can slot into the midfield. Obviously he’s a loss for us but we have enough to cope.”
On New Year’s Day, the Reds will face Newcastle United at Anfield. A victory for Klopp’s team could potentially widen their lead at the top to five points. This opportunity arises following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to West Ham on Thursday.
