Liverpool are currently considering their options as they persist in their quest for a successor to Jurgen Klopp. The Telegraph reports that Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of the Germany national team, has surfaced as a potential candidate.
Despite their interest in securing the services of Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, Liverpool face competition. Bayern Munich has expressed a desire for Alonso to step in for Thomas Tuchel at the conclusion of the season.
Liverpool are prepared to seek alternatives if their pursuit of a former midfielder fails, with Nagelsmann emerging as a potential candidate.
Ruben Amorim, currently managing Sporting Lisbon, presents another possibility for Liverpool. However, the 39-year-old is under contract with the Portuguese top-flight club for an additional two seasons, necessitating compensation from Liverpool.
In contrast, Nagelsmann’s contract with the German Football Association concludes after the upcoming European championships, rendering him available for recruitment following Germany’s elimination from the tournament.
Nagelsmann garnered praise from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in 2018 during Hoffenheim’s encounter with Guardiola’s team in the Champions League. The 36-year-old left Guardiola “really, really impressed” with his performance.

Nagelsmann’s managerial journey has seen him at the helm of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Liverpool stands to gain a top-tier manager if they choose to appoint him.
In 2021, Nagelsmann made history by becoming the most expensive manager ever with his €25 million transfer to Bayern. His debut season saw him clinch the Bundesliga title and secure two German Super Cups. However, his tenure came to an end in March 2023.
Despite his departure, the young manager is highly regarded for his prowess in squad development, tactical style, and financial management. He possesses the potential to elevate Liverpool’s performance to new heights.
Replacing the highly successful Klopp won’t be an easy task for any manager. Nonetheless, Nagelsmann, with his ambition and capabilities, could prove to be the ideal successor that FSG desires.
