Liverpool’s Strongest XI with Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa Completing Late Dash

Liverpool have made significant moves in the transfer market, targeting Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa late in the summer. Arne Slot’s preferred starting XI remains largely unchanged.

Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa were not initially seen as the players or positions Liverpool would focus on before the transfer window closed.

However, both have the potential to become valuable signings if they prove successful. Mamardashvili, who won’t be arriving on Merseyside until the summer of 2025, could serve as a long-term successor to Alisson Becker.

Finding a quality goalkeeper is one of the most challenging tasks in football, so when a promising one becomes available, it is wise to act quickly.

Chiesa, on the other hand, offers significant potential for a relatively modest fee of around $13m (£10m/€12m). Despite concerns over his injury history, if he can remain fit and overcome the issues that have plagued him at Juventus, Liverpool could have secured another world-class winger at a fraction of his true market value.

These transfers should be viewed as strategic moves to build squad depth rather than immediate upgrades to the starting lineup. This is especially true for Mamardashvili, who will not join Liverpool until next summer.

Even then, it would be a considerable challenge for him to surpass Alisson, who will still be only 32 years old at that time, as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Similarly, Chiesa may not immediately enhance Liverpool’s first team but will contribute significantly to the depth of their already formidable forward line.

The Italian’s presence will allow for more rotation of Mohamed Salah and provide additional options across the front three, including the left wing and central forward positions.

With Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo on one side and Salah and Chiesa on the other, Liverpool’s attacking options are plentiful. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez will continue to operate through the middle, ensuring that each attacking position is well-covered. This depth will be crucial as the expanded Champions League format comes into play.

For now, Liverpool’s strongest team remains the one that started against Brentford last weekend. Although the Reds may still appear slightly lacking in depth at center-back and holding midfield, the rest of the squad, including future additions to the goalkeeping department, is in excellent condition.

With Alisson in goal, the back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate or Jarell Quansah, Virgil van Dijk, and Andy Robertson form an impressive defensive unit.

Ryan Gravenberch is expected to occupy the number six role for now, flanked by Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott available as substitutes.

In the attacking line-up, a front three of Diaz, Jota, and Salah, supported by a backup trio of Gakpo, Nunez, and Chiesa, appears to be an ideal setup.

While injuries, suspensions, and changes in form are inevitable, there’s no denying that this attacking group is particularly thrilling.
