Liverpool Get Major Boost in Pursuit of Serie A Star as Edwards ‘Intensifies’ Move for an Argentine Player

Liverpool’s pursuit of Juventus’ Federico Chiesa has received a significant boost, alongside reports suggesting that the Reds have also intensified their efforts to secure an Argentine star.

Chiesa has been frequently associated with a potential move to Anfield as Liverpool seek to enhance their attacking options and prepare for the eventual departure of key player Mo Salah.

Despite ongoing speculation about Liverpool’s interest, Chiesa has so far remained with Juventus. The versatile left winger, capable of playing on the right flank or as a centre-forward, has been in contract negotiations with Juventus, with his current agreement set to expire in June 2025.

Juventus have been eager to extend Chiesa’s contract to put an end to the transfer rumors once and for all.

However, recent reports from Italy indicate that discussions between Chiesa and Juventus have stalled, making it increasingly likely that Chiesa will depart this summer.

Liverpool are on high alert as Juventus have been compelled to lower their asking price for the 26-year-old. Initially valued at over £50 million, Liverpool can now secure a deal for only €25 million (£21 million).

Juventus are willing to sell Chiesa at a reduced price rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool’s potential savings on the Italy ace will enable them to focus on enhancing their midfield.

Recently, reports have surfaced that Liverpool initiated discussions with Porto regarding the acquisition of 22-year-old midfielder Alan Varela.

Eduardo Burgos, a journalist specialising in South American football, reported that Liverpool executives Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have intensified their interest in Varela.

The Argentina U23 international, capable of playing as a No. 6 or No. 8, has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Liverpool aim to outmaneuver their Premier League rivals by securing an agreement for Varela ahead of them.

Varela’s contract with Porto features a substantial release clause of €70m (£60m), presenting a scenario where Liverpool could acquire both him and Chiesa for a combined total of £81m.

However, Edwards and Hughes are expected to negotiate with Porto to lower Varela’s transfer fee.
