However, Mac Allister dismissed the rumours. After just one season on Merseyside, it appears that Alexis is staying put.
“I don’t talk about assumptions,” the 25-year-old answered. “I’m very happy at Liverpool.”
There has been concern about Real Madrid’s interest in Mac Allister, fueled by rumors of a release clause in his contract.
If such a clause exists, Liverpool would be unable to prevent Real Madrid from activating it.
However, we would be very surprised if this were true. Liverpool has previously been firm on not including release clauses, as seen when Emre Can was allowed to let his contract expire rather than sign a new one with an exit clause.
This doesn’t necessarily mean Liverpool hasn’t adopted a different approach with Mac Allister.
It’s worth noting that the reason they secured him for a relatively low fee was his insistence on having a buyout clause in his Brighton contract. It’s possible he has a similar arrangement at Anfield.
Until there is clear information on the matter, we can’t rule it out entirely. Nonetheless, we would be surprised if it were the case. Moreover, Mac Allister appears content at Liverpool, which is excellent news.
