Jose Mourinho Could Reunite Four Former Players at Liverpool After Being Mentioned as Left-field Candidate to Replace Jurgen Klopp

Jose Mourinho has been mentioned as left-field candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp instead of Arne Slot.

If Jose Mourinho decides to make a surprising move to Anfield next season, he might consider bringing in some of his former players to Liverpool.

While Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is widely expected to replace Jurgen Klopp, Robbie Fowler isn’t entirely convinced that he’s the right fit. Fowler believes Liverpool would benefit from the experience of a manager like Mourinho instead, stating:

“I could understand why you would get someone like a [Jose] Mourinho, a case in point would be Real Madrid, for example,” Fowler told Crypto Casino LTD. “When Zinedine Zidane left for the second time in 2021, they didn’t go looking for a young and up-coming manager, they went for an experienced manager in Carlo Ancelotti.

“That experience and that know-how can definitely help a club in transition, but as long as the new manager coming in has the character to go and understand the club, the fans and the culture, then that can make it a little bit easier.

“I do think for this particular club, it doesn’t matter if the replacement is experienced or inexperienced, it’s more about the feel of the manager and the club. It’s about how someone like Arne Slot can adapt to that current situation and to the club, then we take it for what it is.

“As long as Arne Slot comes in and creates the right environment for the players to thrive, then he will get the backing of everyone.”

Newsnow Liverpool takes a look at four players Mourinho could look to reunite with if Liverpool decide to take Fowler’s advice…

Fikayo Tomori

Liverpool are expected to make moves for central defenders once the transfer window opens in June. AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori emerges as a promising option for the Reds, particularly with the potential arrival of Mourinho, who oversaw his development during their time together at Chelsea.

While Tomori may not immediately displace Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate in the starting lineup, he could provide valuable depth to Liverpool’s defensive roster.

Joining Anfield could also enhance his chances of earning future call-ups to the England squad, should he excel in the Premier League.

Evan Ndicka

Liverpool may be eyeing Roma defender Evan Ndicka as a potential signing if Mourinho’s rumored move to Anfield materialises.

Ndicka was previously linked with the Merseyside club on a free transfer last summer, but opted for Roma instead, where he became a regular under Mourinho in the first half of the season.

At 24 years old, Ndicka still has room to grow and could provide valuable depth for Liverpool’s defense, potentially easing the workload on Jarell Quansah.

Despite collapsing during a match against Udinese, Roma has given him the green light to return to football after cardiological tests yielded no concerning results.

Nicolo Zaniolo

Nicolo Zaniolo has long been on Liverpool’s radar, but despite the continuous links, a deal has never materialized. Currently on loan at Aston Villa from Galatasaray, his playing time has been limited, and he’s anticipated to head back to Turkey after the season ends.

There’s still time for Zaniolo to fulfill his potential, and Liverpool could offer him the ideal platform, especially if Mourinho takes charge.

Galatasaray seem willing to part with him for just £17 million, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, presenting Liverpool with a low-risk opportunity to potentially replace Thiago Alcantara in the upcoming transfer window.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham shone at Roma under Mourinho until a serious knee injury sidelined him at the end of last season. Making his comeback last month, he netted his first goal of the season against Napoli in Roma’s latest league match.

Liverpool boasts ample attacking talent with players like Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz all competing for playing time upfront. Yet, uncertainties linger about Mohamed Salah’s future, and Abraham could emerge as a solid replacement should the Egyptian star depart this summer.
