Liverpool may be gearing up for a significant move in the transfer market as they enter a new era following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
Liverpool may have found the perfect timing to prise Rodrygo away from Real Madrid and bring him to Anfield.
The Brazilian player, who previously rejected Liverpool’s advances, showcased his talents once more with a goal in Real Madrid’s 3-3 draw against Manchester City. However, Rodrygo’s future at the Bernabeu is becoming increasingly uncertain.
Despite forming a formidable attacking trio alongside Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo’s position at Real Madrid could be jeopardised by the potential signings of wonderkid Endrick and Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer.
This influx of new talent may disrupt the existing attacking setup, particularly with Bellingham excelling in his debut La Liga season alongside the current duo.
Bellingham and Vinicius Jr are considered key pillars of Madrid’s future. However, Rodrygo might face the most significant impact from Endrick and Mbappe’s signings, possibly creating an opportunity for Liverpool to seize.
While the Reds pursued him during his teenage years at Santos, Rodrygo disclosed that he opted to remain in Brazil instead of moving to the Premier League. Eventually, he joined Madrid in 2019.
“We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to,” Rodrygo admitted. “I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good.
“The pathway they promised me would also have been very good for my career. I was going to finish my studies in England to prepare for European football.
“It had always been my dream to play in Europe. Everything was very good, but my desire spoke louder.
“I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club. And that’s what happened: I was able to fulfil my dream of playing for Santos. But it’s true, I almost went to Liverpool.”
Liverpool may be seeking attacking reinforcements this summer with a new head coach at the helm.
Mohamed Salah’s future is uncertain, and there are rumblings of Luis Diaz potentially departing for Paris Saint-Germain, with a reported £75 million fee in consideration.
Recently, Diaz met with his agent, Raul Costa, at the club. With just over three years remaining on his contract, Liverpool may opt not to prolong negotiations and could consider parting ways with the Colombian forward if an agreement on an extension cannot be reached.
Should Salah and Diaz both leave, it could pave the way for Liverpool to pursue Rodrygo.
