Jamie Carragher expressed disappointment with two Liverpool players in their match against Arsenal.
Liverpool performed well, managing to hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw under Mikel Arteta’s management.
In the second half, Liverpool consistently threatened Arsenal with numerous attacking moves.
Despite their dominance, Liverpool frequently failed to deliver a decisive final pass.
Carragher, while commenting for Sky Sports, mainly blamed Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz for their shortcomings, also mentioning that Mohamed Salah was not exempt from criticism.
“Aside from Salah’s finish, the front three for Liverpool have been really poor,” bemoaned the Liverpool legend. “Salah has a moment of absolute brilliance but too often the front three are in dangerous positions and the final pass or finish [has been missing]. Mostly Gakpo and Diaz. The midfield have been doing their job winning the ball back.
“That quality in the final third has let them down. They’ve had real opportunities when it’s been turned over.”
Liverpool Attack Lets Them Down
Heading into the match, Liverpool fans had been discussing the recent form of both Gakpo and Diaz.
While both players have made contributions this season, their recent performances have been lacking.
Diaz, in particular, needs to regain his form. He has only scored one goal in his last 14 Premier League matches, and Liverpool expects more from him.
Despite his efforts against Arsenal, Diaz seemed unable to change the tide on Saturday.
However, it wasn’t just Diaz who struggled. Despite scoring a goal, Salah also made several mistakes, frequently losing possession in promising areas.
Salah, usually so confident when advancing into the final third, struggled to maintain control during the game.
Not only did his touch fail him multiple times, but his decision-making and execution in key moments were also subpar. Meanwhile, Gakpo struggled to make an impact.
On paper, Liverpool attacking lineup appears formidable. However, they have been delivering underwhelming performances too often recently. Improvements are essential for the team’s success.
