Newsnow Liverpool brings the latest talks about a contract extension for a “world class” Reds player.
Jurgen Klopp’s influence at Liverpool are undeniable, but there may be a rare instance where he needs to yield to the club’s desires, especially concerning a player he’s praised as “world class.”
Liverpool’s impressive start to the 2023/24 Premier League season positions them well as they gear up for a highly anticipated clash with Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday. This fixture becomes even more crucial as they seek to keep pace with the league leaders, Manchester City, who are scheduled to play earlier in the day against Wolves.
Despite the significant departures of key players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, and Roberto Firmino, Klopp has skillfully rallied his team, once again orchestrating them to perform to his exacting standards.
Will Liverpool Extend Thiago Alcantara Contract?
This resurgence marks a significant departure from the underwhelming 2022/23 campaign Liverpool endured. During that period, Thiago Alcantara, according to 90Min, made just 14 starts, and an ongoing hip injury has sidelined him throughout the current season since April.
Interestingly, Klopp maintains that the 32-year-old midfielder warrants a contract extension, despite his recurring injury concerns. However, it appears that differing opinions may exist among decision-makers at Anfield.
“You don’t have five million players like this on the planet – only a few who see things earlier than anyone else and have the technical ability to not only see it but get the ball there as well,” Klopp is quoted as saying by 90Min.
“He is a world-class player. He can be pretty dangerous with and without the ball so, from our point of view, there is really nothing to moan about. Football is outstanding, but his counter-pressing was mad. That makes the full package. I couldn’t respect it more.”
While it is undeniable that Liverpool presents a distinct challenge when their midfielder is on the field, Klopp should exercise caution when contemplating changes to a successful team at this stage.
Gradually reintegrating Thiago into the lineup would be the wiser choice, with a potential contract assessment later in the season seeming more appropriate.
