Is Mohamed Salah Leaving Liverpool?

According to L’Equipe report, Liverpool are considering a summer transfer for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe should the Reds sell Mohamed Salah to Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad this week.

Mbappe is on Jurgen Klopp’s radar as a potential Salah replacement, and the Frenchman would consider coming to Anfield if the Merseysiders made a competitive offer for his services, according to the report.

When the France international’s contract ends in a year, Real Madrid, the odds-on favourites to sign him, will have to contend with Liverpool.

Following his outstanding goal-scoring performances for PSG since moving from AS Monaco in 2018—first on loan then making the transfer permanent—Mbappe is one of the most sought-after strikers in the world.

During his five years at the club, the 24-year-old has contributed to 217 goals and 98 assists in 263 appearances for the Ligue 1 team. In 43 games last season, he scored a staggering 41 goals and contributed 10 assists across all competitions.

Mbappe was important in helping PSG win the Ligue 1 championship with 85 points, one point ahead of second-place Lens.

The World Cup champion has scored five goals in three games despite missing the club’s opening league game of the new season owing to persistent contractual concerns.

L’Equipe claims that if Salah is sold, Liverpool would rekindle their interest in Mbappe.  Al-Ittihad’s verbal bid of £150 million from the Reds was rejected because Jurgen Klopp wanted to retain Salah, 31, this season.

The Saudi Pro League team is anticipated to increase their offer to as much as £200 million in an effort to persuade Liverpool to offload the Egypt international before the transfer market ends on Thursday, September 7.

However, it would be extremely difficult to get Mbappe in the winter transfer window as PSG would not contemplate losing a crucial player in the midst of the season. If Liverpool does trade Salah, the club would have enough money to bid for Mbappe.

Mbappe is rated at €180 million by Transfermarkt, but Liverpool would need to spend a fortune to have any chance of bringing the elite forward in the next summer
