Liverpool and Manchester City engaged in a riveting 1-1 draw as the Premier League title race heated up.
Jurgen Klopp expressed satisfaction with Liverpool’s performance against Manchester City.
In the highly anticipated match at Anfield, the Reds and Pep Guardiola‘s side battled to a 1-1 stalemate. Manchester City took the lead thanks to John Stone’s goal in the 23rd minute, but Liverpool swiftly retaliated.
They equalised in the 50th minute when Alexis Mac Allister converted a penalty awarded after Darwin Nunez was brought down by City goalkeeper Ederson.
Following the equaliser, Klopp’s team dominated proceedings, with Luis Diaz missing several good chances and Nunez seeing his shot saved.
City had their chances too, with Jeremy Doku hitting the post in the 89th minute. Liverpool’s hopes for a late winner were dashed when their penalty appeal in stoppage time, following Mac Allister’s challenge from Doku, was waved away.
The Reds are currently sitting second in the table with 64 points, trailing Arsenal by goal difference, while City are just a point behind.
Klopp has encouraged Liverpool to Capitalise on their recent performance, setting sights on not only clinching the Premier League title but also aiming for four trophies in his last season as manager.
Klopp told reporters: “On the scale I rate football games there is no higher scale than playing the best football you can play against Man City, causing City the problems we caused them today.
“I was not here in the press conference but probably Pep [Guardiola] saw it as well, that this was a different game to other games we played against them. Very often when we won it was counter-attack, quick-thinking, shots from distance.
“How we played through the midfield today, that was some of the best moments of my coaching career, to be honest, that we are able to do that against them.
“You see a situation when Luis Diaz against [Kyle] Walker, who is officially the fastest [player] in the Premier League, I think they said that recently, and Rodri and he gets out of that.
“It’s absolutely incredible! So, the boys really wanted it, a really good performance, massive heart, sensational atmosphere, one point. Let’s keep going.”
