Liverpool Join Transfer Race for Wonderkid Who Gave Andy Robertson Nightmares in Nations League

Liverpool are preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window by assessing potential targets.

With the transfer window approaching, Liverpool must address several key positions. While strengthening the defence and attack remains a priority, the club is still keen on bolstering its midfield, following a recent overhaul in that area.

In recent weeks, Liverpool have been linked with several promising transfer targets. A new report suggests they are now interested in a rising talent who could provide solutions to multiple challenges at Anfield.

Liverpool have turned their attention to Konstantinos Karetsas, a young prospect making a name for himself at KRC Genk. The 17-year-old, primarily an attacking midfielder, is also capable of playing on the wing.

His talent was on full display when he faced Andy Robertson in a recent Nations League encounter, where he posed a considerable challenge for the experienced defender.

Liverpool Set Sights on Konstantinos Karetsas

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool are among the clubs showing interest in signing Konstantinos Karetsas this summer, following his standout performances for both club and country.

The 17-year-old remains under contract with Genk until 2027, meaning the Belgian club is under no pressure to sell him. With growing interest from clubs like Liverpool, his market value is expected to rise. Manchester United and Newcastle have also been named as potential suitors for the young talent.

The Italian outlet has described Karetsas as ‘one of the best talents in the world,’ attracting further interest from Napoli. However, the Serie A club is fully aware that securing his signature will be a challenge, given the intense competition expected in the summer transfer window.

Karetsas, who was ranked 36th in Goal’s annual NXGN list of the world’s top 50 football prospects, was born in Belgium but represents Greece at the international level.

His national team recently faced Scotland in the Nations League, and despite trailing 1-0 at home in the first leg, they mounted an impressive 3-0 comeback.

During that match, Karetsas made a significant impact, scoring one of Greece’s goals while playing on the right wing, where he was matched up against Scotland captain Andy Robertson.

According to FotMob, the teenager won three fouls, created a goal-scoring opportunity, and found the net with his only shot on target.

Liverpool’s Contract Situation

Liverpool are keen to strengthen their squad, but their summer transfer plans largely depend on player departures. Darwin Nunez has been linked with an exit for some time, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid appears to be gaining momentum.

The Reds are actively exploring attacking reinforcements, with a centre-forward high on Arne Slot’s list of priorities. However, if Mohamed Salah departs as a free agent, finding a reliable replacement on the wing would become an urgent necessity.

With just two goals and four assists at club level this season, Karetsas is unlikely to be considered an immediate replacement. However, if Liverpool choose to pursue their interest in him, he could be developed into a key player for the future.
