Atletico Madrid Provide Official Response to Julian Alvarez to Liverpool Transfer Rumours

Atletico Madrid have refuted reports suggesting that Liverpool have already made an offer to sign former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez in the upcoming transfer window.

The Spanish club has dismissed speculation linking Alvarez with a move to Anfield, asserting that the Argentine striker is not available for transfer.

Although his agent has hinted at a potential exit, Atletico’s sporting director, Carlos Busero, has categorically stated that no official approach has been made by Liverpool, branding the rumours as baseless.

Alvarez, who has scored 23 goals in 44 appearances this season, remains a key figure in Diego Simeone’s squad as they continue their pursuit of La Liga success following their Champions League exit at the hands of rivals Real Madrid.

Busero told 365scores: “The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect. He then added: “What is being circulated is just rumours.”

He further emphasised the club’s stance, saying, “Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours.”

Liverpool remain in pursuit of a new number nine, with Arne Slot recently confirming their plans to strengthen their attacking options this summer. This comes as uncertainty surrounds the future of Darwin Nunez, who was the subject of a bid from a Saudi Arabian club in January, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Nunez has managed just seven goals across all competitions this season, raising concerns over his effectiveness in Liverpool’s system. Meanwhile,

Diogo Jota, who featured in Liverpool’s home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and their Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle, has failed to find the net in his last 10 matches and has scored only eight goals throughout the campaign.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the club will make attacking reinforcements this summer, stating in The Overlap Fan Debate: “The fact he [Slot] didn’t change many players for the home game with Southampton in between the PSG games [says a lot].

“Southampton are arguably one of the worst sides in the Premier League, yet he didn’t really trust the players.

“I can accept that this season because it is not really his squad, it has been passed to him, but I think next season – I’m sure they will bring players in – he will have to trust his squad more because you have to go further in the Champions League.

“I’m excited to see where Arne Slot will take Liverpool because it looks like they’re going to win the league, but there are still so many areas to improve.

” He needs a centre-back as back-up to the two that we have, he’ll need a right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to leave. I think he needs a centre midfielder to replace Endo, someone younger and that he trusts, a centre-forward to play and a left-winger. There are at least five or six players he needs to get in – three to go straight in the team and three to be strong back-ups.”
