“I Hope” – Cody Gakpo Sends Clear Message to “Special” Liverpool Teammate Amid Uncertain Future
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has delivered a strong message to his teammate Mohamed Salah amidst growing speculation over the Egyptian star’s long-term future at the club.
Despite undergoing a managerial change, Liverpool have enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign without relying heavily on significant financial investments.
Arne Slot has seamlessly continued Jurgen Klopp’s legacy, successfully moulding the team into a formidable force on both domestic and European fronts.
Under Slot’s leadership, Liverpool have suffered just one defeat across all competitions—a narrow 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield in mid-September.
Since that setback, the Reds have gone on an incredible 21-match unbeaten run, boasting the league’s second-best attacking record and one of the most resilient defensive lines.
At the heart of Liverpool’s title pursuit is Mohamed Salah, who has been instrumental in driving the team’s success this season.
The Egyptian talisman has registered 15 goals and 11 assists in just 16 league appearances, becoming the first Premier League player to reach double figures in both categories before Christmas.
Salah’s recent brace in Liverpool’s emphatic 6-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur propelled him to fourth place on the club’s all-time top scorers list, serving as a reminder of his immense value as contract negotiations remain unresolved.
When speaking about Salah, Cody Gakpo emphasised how fortunate Liverpool are to have a player of such extraordinary talent within their ranks.
“I don’t know what to say,” Gakpo said in an interview (via the club’s official website).
“It’s very special what we are all witnessing. The amount of goals he scores but the assists he gives as well.
“The way he plays the game – how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and to be dangerous is from a high level.
“I hope for us, and for him, that he can continue doing that for a long time.
“We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his teammate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well.”
Despite Salah’s outstanding form, negotiations over a new contract with the club have yet to produce a breakthrough. Whether the former Chelsea forward will remain at Anfield beyond this summer remains uncertain.
