“Pretty Impressive”: Gary Lineker Names the “Brilliant” Youngster in Liverpool Ranks

Gary Lineker has commended Liverpool talent Jayden Danns for his impressive performances in both the FA Cup fifth round and the Carabao Cup final.

On The Rest Is Football, Lineker praised Danns’ display against Chelsea, highlighting his remarkable rise to prominence.

Danns, a product of the Reds’ academy, has recently made significant strides in the Liverpool first team following a stellar campaign at youth level.

The 18-year-old striker boasts an impressive record of 16 goals and four assists from just 17 appearances across various competitions, including the Under-18 Premier League, the FA Youth Cup, Premier League 2, and the EFL Trophy.

Danns’ outstanding performances at the youth level earned him a chance in the Liverpool senior team, where he made his debut against Luton Town in the Premier League.

He subsequently featured in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final triumph over Chelsea before making an even bigger impact by scoring twice in their FA Cup victory against Southampton.

“It’s a dream come true,” Danns told ITV Sport – via the Liverpool media team – post-match.

“I’ve supported the club since I was young, since birth, so to come on and score at the Kop end – it’s unreal.

“It doesn’t feel real to me. It feels like I’m in a movie. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight.”

Gary Lineker Impressed with Liverpool Talent Jayden Danns

Lineker was impressed by Danns’ performance in his recent matches, as well as his demeanor in the post-match interview following the victory against Saints.

“I saw Jayden Danns’ little post-match interview this morning on social media where he’s like ‘oh the best day of my life’,” said Lineker.

“And then, I mean, to score two goals – and I thought he did really well when he came on in the Carabao Cup Final as well, didn’t he, against Chelsea. I mean, brilliant.

“Klopp trusts them. You know, some people say ‘well, you know, he’s not going to take too many chances with his players because they’ve got so many injuries’.

“But still, to beat a side that has been going really well in the Championship by three goals to nil with basically a youth team, it’s pretty impressive!”

It is indeed wonderful to witness an academy talent securing a significant opportunity within his childhood club’s senior team and establishing himself. Liverpool have seen numerous instances of this in recent times, and Danns represents the latest addition to this trend. One can only hope that this marks the inception of a highly promising career at Anfield.

Given his recent presence on the bench in preceding matches, it appears probable that Danns will continue in this role, with the possibility of another appearance as Liverpool prepare to play Nottingham Forest.
