Liverpool “Make First Approach” for Jurgen Klopp Replacement Target as Release Clause Details Emerges

Liverpool’s ongoing search for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement as the club’s next manager continues to spark numerous rumours.

Last month, Klopp announced his impending departure from Anfield, scheduled for the end of the season. Joining him in leaving the club this summer are Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, and Vitor Matos from his backroom staff.

Consequently, Liverpool will embark on the task of finding a suitable successor in the coming months. Additionally, the Reds will seek to fill the vacancy left by Jorg Schmadtke, who departed as sporting director after the January transfer window.

Ever since Klopp initially disclosed his departure from Liverpool, speculation has been rampant regarding who might take over from him as the club’s first managerial appointment since October 2015.

Newsnow Liverpool has now taken a look at the current rumours surrounding the Reds’ quest for their next manager.

According to Sport Bild in Germany, the club have reached out to Alonso’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, to commence the process of bringing the former midfielder to Merseyside. However, it is noted in the report that Bayer Leverkusen is “confident” Alonso will decline the opportunity to leave the Bay Arena for Anfield.

Alonso is said to be under contract with Leverkusen until 2026. Alongside Liverpool’s interest, Bayern Munich are also reported to have earmarked Alonso as their preferred choice to succeed Thomas Tuchel as manager this summer.

Ruben Amorim Release Clause

Reports circulating suggest there’s an update regarding Ruben Amorim’s release clause at Sporting CP.

Amorim has been mentioned as a potential successor to Klopp at Anfield, along with Alonso. His impressive stint at the Primeira Liga club has positioned him as an ‘alternative’ to Alonso if Liverpool fail to secure their former midfielder.

According to The Athletic, Amorim’s release clause is lower than initially believed. Initially set at €20 million (£17 million) for clubs outside Portugal, it’s now reported to be even lower, as stated by David Ornstein.

“Ruben Amorim’s got a release clause in his contract,” said Ornstein on The Athletic Football Podcast. “It was, I think a year ago when Chelsea spoke to him, it [release clause] was up at €20 million (£17m).

“Now I understand it’s €10 million (£8.5m), which people might feel is low, especially if it was a player signing. But that is high for a managerial appointment, whether we like it or not.”
