Wonderkid Jayden Danns had a memorable night, scoring his first goals for the Reds.
Liverpool prodigy Jayden Danns expressed his elation, describing his debut senior goals as a “dream come true.” He netted two goals in Liverpool’s FA Cup fifth-round victory over Southampton and predicts a sleepless night following his achievement.
Entering the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute, Danns made an immediate impact with Liverpool leading 1-0 against Championship side Southampton, courtesy of Lewis Koumas’ first-half goal.
Danns found the net twice, delighting the Kop end and securing Liverpool’s spot in the quarter-finals against Manchester United.
His first goal showcased his adept movement behind the defender, followed by a composed finish past Southampton’s goalkeeper, Joe Lumley. Danns doubled his tally by displaying sharp instincts, capitalising on Conor Bradley’s shot to tap the ball into the empty net.
Speaking after the 3-0 win, Danns admitted that he will struggle to sleep tonight. “Honestly, it’s a dream come true,” he said. “I have supported the club since birth so to come on and score at the KOP end, it’s unreal, it doesn’t feel real to me. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight. “
Adding on his goals, the 18-year-old said: “Obviously it was this lad [Harvey Elliott] who set me in, I just seen him and knew he had the vision and I’ll make it. The keeper came close and when he comes that close you have to dink it.
“The second one was pure joy. I didn’t think it would come to me and I was happy with one, but when two came I just went sliding and lost all composure as you saw.”
