Liverpool Player Ratings: One on “Ghost Mode” as Alisson Becker and One More Terrible in Disappointing Defeat Against Arsenal

Ian Doyle delivers his Liverpool player ratings following their disappointing 3-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League.

The opportunity for Liverpool to establish an eight-point lead at the summit of the Premier League table slipped away as they succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

Gabriel’s own goal managed to equalise for the Reds after Bukayo Saka’s initial opener, but unfortunate errors from Alisson Becker paved the way for goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the second half.

Ian Doyle a rates the performance of Liverpool players on an afternoon that they would prefer to swiftly erase from memory.

Alisson Becker 3

“Bit overly risky with distribution first half but unlucky his save from Havertz fell to Saka for Arsenal first. Very much at fault for the second and third, however.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold 5

“Far too lackadaisical at times when in possession and slow to react to a number of Arsenal attacks. Didn’t appear fully fit. Subbed.”

Ibrahima Konate 5

“Played Havertz onside for the opening goal and looked spooked for much of first half, but denied same player with block. Second half dealt pretty well with Martinelli. Booked twice and sent off.”

Virgil van Dijk 5

“Appeared very uncomfortable during the opening stages and gave some poor passes away, but good block denied Odegaard. Partly responsible for Arsenal second.”

Joe Gomez 6

“Did enough to put Saka off for early Arsenal chance and maintained level first half and moved to right-back during second. Booked and subbed.”

Alexis Mac Allister 7

“Robbed a couple of times but otherwise actually tried to disrupt Arsenal rather than watch them. Good pass released Gakpo for chance and fired in a few shots.”

Ryan Gravenberch 3

“Clearly on ‘ghost’ mode for this game, during which he was borderline invisible. Tempo seemed too much for him. Subbed.”

Curtis Jones 6

“Took a bit of fight to Arsenal in opening exchanges when one of few Liverpool players to want to keep the ball for any length of time. Curled one wide after interval.”

Diogo Jota 5

“Negligible contribution down the right before moving along the front line with similar results before interval. Better as Liverpool improved after break.”

Cody Gakpo 4

“Flashed one shot across goal early on but not given enough service and had to go looking for the ball too often. Subbed.”

Luis Diaz 6

“Diagonals up against White were asking a lot of the winger, but hard work and persistence ultimately paid off by forcing the equaliser. Stronger second-half showing.”

Andy Robertson (for Alexander-Arnold 58) 5

“Slotted in at left-back with not much impact.”

Darwin Nunez (for Gakpo 58) 5

“Another forward to suffer from lack of service but at least had a shot. Booked.”

Harvey Elliott (for Gravenberch 58) 6

“A lot more careful and tidy in possession in midfield.”

Thiago Alcantara (for Gomez 85)

“First appearance since April.”
