22-year-old Serie A Star Has Revealed His Dream is to Join Liverpool

Liverpool are currently navigating the January transfer window without making any signings, but they are monitoring Genoa midfielder Morten Frendup.

The Reds’ interest in Morten Frendup was brought to light in a recent report by The ECHO. In an interview from 2018, Frendup revealed his love for the club, adding a personal touch to the potential transfer.

As of the beginning of this month, Liverpool’s monitoring of the Danish midfielder, who plays for the Serie A side Genoa, was confirmed. However, reports suggest that any potential deal is more likely to materialize in the summer rather than in the current January window.

Frendrup’s journey led him to Genoa in 2022 after moving from Brondby. Since then, he has established himself as a regular starter in the competitive Italian top-flight. Notably, his versatility allows him to contribute either as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking option on the left flank.

While Liverpool are actively pursuing Frendup, they are not alone in race. Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old. This comes in the wake of Spurs securing the services of Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, signaling a continued interest in talent from the Italian club.

If a transfer showdown unfolds between the Reds and the Lilywhites, Jurgen Klopp might feel optimistic about securing a deal. This stems from Frendrup expressing his desire to play for Liverpool, his favorite club, six years ago at the age of 16.

Speaking to Danish outlet Sjællandske Nyheder, he said: “It’s a dream I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it.”

Frendrup, a consistent presence in Genoa’s Serie A matches this season, has two years left on his contract. He’ll become a free agent in the summer of 2026 unless he agrees to a new deal before then.

Liverpool overhauled their midfield in 2023, signing four new players to fill the gaps left by Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, and Naby Keita.
