Liverpool Could Perform U-turn on £82m Alexander Isak Alternative as ‘Mistake’ Claim Made

Liverpool have been linked with a number of alternative targets aside from Alexander Isak this year.

However, speculation surrounding the Newcastle United striker has surged back into focus after his dramatic message on social media.

The Swedish forward reignited transfer talk this week by sharing a stark admission on Instagram, where he revealed that ‘promises have been broken’ and ‘trust has been lost’ in relation to his current situation at St James’ Park.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading,” the striker wrote on a now expired Instagram story.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

Newcastle Trying to Salvage Alexander Isak Relationship

Isak has strongly hinted that his time at Newcastle is coming to an end, though the club are still eager to repair the damaged relationship.

In response, the Magpies issued a statement rejecting his claims, insisting that ‘no commitment has ever been made’ allowing him to depart this summer.

“We have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met,” the statement continued.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

Newcastle remain intent on keeping Isak at St James’ Park and are hopeful of bringing him back into the fold. Although this appears to be against the player’s wishes, the club are refusing to back down. That stance could effectively shut the door on Liverpool in this window, with limited time left to pursue another option.

Liverpool Could Make U-turn on Julian Alvarez Pursuit

We are now entering the final two weeks of the transfer window, and Liverpool must move quickly if they intend to bring in another centre-forward.

Earlier this year, the Reds were linked with former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, but their interest was cut short after being informed he was not available for transfer this summer.

The Argentinian forward is tied to Atletico Madrid until 2030, having joined from Manchester City last year in a deal worth £82 million.

Alvarez enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Spain, scoring 29 goals across all competitions. However, according to journalist Matias Palacios, cited by Tribuna, those close to the player believe he may have made the wrong decision in joining Atletico.

Reports suggest Alvarez has become ‘frustrated’ with his current role under Diego Simeone, often being deployed out of position despite arriving with the expectation of becoming the club’s first-choice centre-forward.

Any chance of a move would depend on Atletico’s readiness to negotiate. Although the Spanish side are unlikely to make things easy, they do already have Alexander Sorloth, who managed only five fewer goals than Alvarez last season, competing for the same role.

Alvarez has also shown his quality in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City. In his final season under Pep Guardiola, the 25-year-old delivered 19 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

The potential price tag for Alvarez remains uncertain, though it would almost certainly exceed the fee Atletico paid just a year ago. Still, if Liverpool are prepared to commit over £100 million for Alexander Isak, there is every reason to believe they could make a similar push for Alvarez or another forward before the window closes.
