Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool has been uncertain throughout the summer.
The Italian winger, who arrived at Anfield in 2024 for a fee of around £10 million, was initially considered a clever acquisition.
Yet, his first season proved challenging due to persistent injuries. He managed fewer than 500 minutes across all competitions and ended the Premier League campaign without a goal.
As a result, speculation mounted over a possible exit from Liverpool, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the situation has now taken a different turn.
What Has Federico Chiesa’s Agent Told Liverpool?
Many Liverpool supporters had anticipated Federico Chiesa’s departure this summer.
Although the Italian remains a popular figure at Anfield, his ongoing fitness issues have made it hard for the Reds to count on him over the course of a full season.
Nevertheless, Chiesa proved decisive on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign, netting a late winner against Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth.
Fabrizio Romano has since reported that Chiesa has opted to remain at Liverpool, despite previously weighing up an exit earlier in the transfer window.
The journalist said in a video on his YouTube channel: “What happened with Chiesa? As I always told you, Federico was never in a bad relationship with Liverpool, with Arne Slot, with his teammates, with the fans. Chiesa loves Liverpool. He’s very happy about the relationship he has with everyone at the club and with the fans who love him, absolutely love him.
“But Federico Chiesa, around June and July, had this feeling that he had to leave Liverpool if he wanted to go back into the Italian national team, try to reach the World Cup and more. So Chiesa was like, ‘I don’t want to leave, but I have to leave because this is the only opportunity’.
“Then, Luis Diaz leaves. Darwin Nunez leaves. No more winger joining, with Liverpool focusing on Alexander Isak – a striker, not a winger. And so, Chiesa started working very hard, trying to find the focus again. Despite not even being in the squad for the pre-season tour, in the first game of the season in the Premier League, he scores a crucial goal for Liverpool.
“So now, I can confirm to you that Federico Chiesa wants to stay at Liverpool. His agent also informed Liverpool that the desire of the player is to stay, is not to negotiate with Italian clubs anymore, but is to stay at Liverpool, compete and fight for his place.”
Chiesa earned plenty of admiration from Liverpool fans after finding the net against Bournemouth.
The 27-year-old has endured a difficult spell since his arrival at Anfield, making his first-ever Premier League goal a particularly special moment.
Reports suggest Chiesa has now chosen to remain with Liverpool, a decision that will no doubt please the club’s hierarchy.
Back in May, it was reported that Liverpool still believed he could have an impact and had no intention of forcing him out.
Arne Slot has maintained faith in the Italian throughout, and he will be delighted if the former Juventus winger remains beyond the close of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool now face testing encounters with Newcastle United and Arsenal before the deadline, and all eyes will be on how Chiesa performs in those matches.
