Kulusevski’s Lost Season: Tottenham Star Faces Uncertain Future After Long Injury Layoff

Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult campaign has been marked by inconsistent performances, growing pressure on the squad, and uncertainty surrounding several key players. Among the most noticeable absentees this season has been Dejan Kulusevski, a player who once played a central role in the club’s attacking system.

The Swedish international has not appeared in a single match during the 2025/26 season following a serious knee injury that required surgery. At just 25 years old, the former Juventus winger is currently facing one of the most challenging periods of his professional career.

Kulusevski’s absence has left a noticeable gap in the attacking setup of Tottenham Hotspur F.C., especially during a season where creativity and attacking consistency have often been lacking.

The Injury That Changed His Season

Kulusevski’s long spell on the sidelines began on May 11, 2025, during a match against Crystal Palace F.C. During that game, the winger suffered a serious injury to his right kneecap that forced him to leave the pitch.

Medical examinations later confirmed that the injury would require surgery. What followed was a lengthy rehabilitation process that has kept him out of competitive football for nearly a year.

For Tottenham, losing a player with Kulusevski’s technical ability, work rate, and vision has been a major setback. Known for his ability to cut inside from the right wing and create chances, he quickly became a key attacking outlet after joining the club.

Staying Positive During Recovery

Extended injury layoffs can be mentally demanding for professional athletes, but Kulusevski has tried to remain optimistic throughout his recovery.

The Swedish star recently shared a reflective message with fans on social media, posting a verse from the Book of Isaiah:

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary.”

The message was accompanied by the song For a Better Day by Swedish DJ Avicii, a subtle nod to perseverance and hope during difficult times.

Kulusevski has also posted training updates showing his rehabilitation progress. Photos and videos from the gym and training pitch suggest the winger is gradually regaining strength as he works toward a return.

Tottenham Manager Provides Update

Tottenham manager Igor Tudor has acknowledged that the player’s recovery has been complex but insisted that Kulusevski remains in good spirits.

According to Tudor, the club’s medical staff is carefully monitoring his progress and will not rush him back before he is fully fit. The manager also admitted that predicting a precise return date remains difficult.

However, there is cautious optimism that the Swedish winger could still feature during the latter stages of the season if his rehabilitation continues positively.

What the Future Holds

Despite missing an entire season, Kulusevski continues to attract interest from clubs across Europe. Before joining Tottenham, the Swedish winger impressed in Serie A, playing for Atalanta B.C. and Parma Calcio 1913.

His performances eventually earned him a move to Juventus before Tottenham secured his signature in a deal worth around €30 million.

Since arriving in North London, Kulusevski has made 146 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 30 assists. He also lifted the UEFA Europa League with Spurs, although injury forced him to watch the final from the sidelines.

For now, the focus remains on recovery. Tottenham supporters will be hoping that when Kulusevski finally returns to the pitch, he can rediscover the form that made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents.

After a year of frustration and rehabilitation, his comeback could mark the beginning of a new chapter for both the player and the club.
