Juventus is preparing for significant changes in its goalkeeping department after growing concerns over Michele Di Gregorio’s performances. The Bianconeri hierarchy is reportedly exploring options in the Premier League, identifying Alisson Becker as a standout candidate while also maintaining interest in Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur.
Di Gregorio arrived in Turin from Monza with strong expectations, but a sequence of costly errors has prompted doubts about his long-term suitability. Juventus is now considering a high-level replacement as they aim to restore defensive stability ahead of next season.
Di Gregorio’s Difficult Spell Prompts Action
Recent performances have intensified scrutiny around Di Gregorio. According to Italian reports, repeated mistakes in Serie A and European competition have placed his position under review. Juventus’ leadership is said to view the situation as unsustainable, especially with ambitions of competing domestically and in the Champions League.
Complicating matters further, Mattia Perin is reportedly seeking regular first-team football elsewhere, while veteran Carlo Pinsoglio is considering retirement. This combination has accelerated plans for a restructuring of the entire goalkeeping unit.
Juventus’ search has led them back to the English top flight, where Alisson’s situation at Liverpool FC is being closely monitored amid growing speculation about his future.
The Alisson Proposal
Alisson, whose contract at Anfield runs until 2027, is regarded internally as the ideal solution. The 33-year-old previously played in Serie A with AS Roma and is familiar with Italian football’s tactical demands. He also has a working history with current Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti, having been part of his squad in Rome.
During his early Roma years, Alisson initially served as a cup goalkeeper before eventually establishing himself as one of Europe’s elite shot-stoppers. His subsequent move to Liverpool saw him win both the Premier League and Champions League, reinforcing his reputation as a world-class presence between the posts.
Juventus believes that Liverpool’s acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili as a long-term successor could open the door to negotiations. If the Turin club secures Champions League qualification and the associated financial boost, they may be positioned to fund a move estimated at around €60 million.
Vicario Remains a Priority Option
While Alisson represents the headline pursuit, Vicario is also considered a serious candidate. Juventus has reportedly initiated contact with the 29-year-old’s representatives as they evaluate potential summer negotiations.
Inter is also believed to be monitoring Vicario as they plan for life beyond Yann Sommer, increasing competition for his signature. However, Juventus sees the Italian international as a practical and financially viable option.
Tottenham are understood to value Vicario between €25 million and €30 million, a figure that aligns with Juventus’ projected budget. His reported salary demands of around €4.5 million per season are not viewed as prohibitive. A return to Serie A could appeal to Vicario, particularly given Spurs’ inconsistency in competing for major honours.
Spalletti’s Public Backing
Despite the transfer speculation, Spalletti has defended Di Gregorio in public. The Juventus coach stated that the goalkeeper does not carry greater responsibility than the rest of the squad, though he acknowledged that the player is currently experiencing a challenging period along with the team.
Fan frustration has grown at the Allianz Stadium, notably during a recent 2-0 defeat to Como, when sections of the crowd expressed dissatisfaction.
If negotiations for Alisson or Vicario prove unsuccessful, Marco Carnesecchi of Atalanta has been identified as a domestic alternative. However, his valuation of €40–50 million presents a more expensive solution.
With the summer window approaching, Juventus is focused on resolving its goalkeeping dilemma decisively. The club is determined to ensure that defensive instability does not undermine another campaign, making this one of their most pressing transfer priorities.
