Liverpool ‘Eye’ Alexander Isak ‘Alternative’ That Has Twice Rejected Newcastle United Transfer

Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to a different target in their search for a striker, and the player in question is well known among Newcastle United supporters.

Although both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Alexander Isak, Newcastle have no intention of selling the Swedish forward this summer. Isak remains under contract for another three years at St James’ Park and is considered a key player by the club, who are not open to letting him go.

Isak enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, registering 27 goals across all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League. Only Mohamed Salah scored more league goals, highlighting Isak’s growing reputation as one of the top strikers in the game.

Newcastle have made it clear they will not entertain offers for Isak unless they are close to breaking transfer records. This valuation has deterred a number of potential buyers, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

As Arsenal now shift their focus to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Liverpool will also be forced to explore alternative options. Darwin Nunez, who joined the Reds in the same window that brought Isak to Newcastle, has been linked with a move to Italian champions Napoli. If the Uruguayan departs Anfield, the Reds would need to find a suitable replacement.

Should Liverpool abandon their pursuit of Isak, one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards might be next on their list—and it’s a name Newcastle fans will instantly recognise.

Liverpool ‘Eye’ Hugo Ekitike Deal

Reports suggest that Liverpool have identified Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike as a potential backup option to Alexander Isak in their summer search for a forward. Ekitike enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, finding the net 22 times in all competitions, including 15 goals in just 33 Bundesliga matches.

The 23-year-old has found form again in Germany following an underwhelming stint at Paris Saint-Germain. His performances have reignited belief that he could fulfil his early promise and establish himself among Europe’s elite. Although Frankfurt are keen to keep hold of him, a bid in excess of £70 million might persuade the German outfit to part ways with their in-form striker.

However, Liverpool are not alone in the race for Ekitike’s signature. Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring the Frenchman, despite already bolstering their attacking options with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap during the current window.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, will observe the unfolding transfer battle with a touch of familiarity, having missed out on Ekitike on two separate occasions. Their first attempt came in January 2022, but a late move fell through in the closing hours of the winter window.

Later that same year, Newcastle revived their interest, only for Ekitike to choose a move to PSG instead. Although it was a disappointment at the time, the collapse of that deal opened the door for the Magpies to sign Alexander Isak for £63 million in a transfer that arguably wouldn’t have happened had Ekitike made the switch to Tyneside.
