Marc Guehi Revealed True Feelings on Liverpool as Reds Weigh Up Transfer Approach

Marc Guehi is being linked with a potential move to Liverpool during the current summer transfer window. The Crystal Palace defender has previously expressed admiration for the Merseyside club and praised Mohamed Salah, describing him as “very intelligent.”

In an earlier interview, Guehi spoke favourably about Liverpool, referring to them as a side filled with “fantastic players.” His comments about Salah highlighted the Egyptian’s football intelligence and the overall quality within the Reds’ squad.

Liverpool are reportedly targeting Guehi as they look to reinforce their backline. With Jarell Quansah expected to complete a move to Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds are eager to bring in a reliable replacement, and the Palace captain has emerged as a key candidate.

Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace is set to expire next summer, potentially making him available at a reduced price. Under normal circumstances, a player of his calibre would likely command a higher fee.

If the move does materialise, it would see Guehi join a club he has publicly praised in the past—adding further intrigue to the developing transfer story.

Speaking ahead of a game between Palace and Liverpool a couple of years ago, Guehi said: “Everyone knows how strong they are as a team, they’ve got some fantastic players, obviously off the back of a good season they had as well so it’s going to be a tough game. We expect that and hopefully we can go and put in a good performance.”

Addressing Salah’s qualities specifically, Guehi said: “He’s so quick. Very quick, a very intelligent player. The way they play is very direct, they like to get the ball forward to their front players as quick as possible.”

Earlier this week, reports emerged that Marc Guehi had told close friends he would prefer a move to Liverpool ahead of offers from both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Guardian, the Crystal Palace captain is also open to the possibility of running down his current contract and leaving on a free transfer when it expires next year.

So far this summer, Liverpool have already completed the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez. Despite spending close to \$250 million on those acquisitions, including performance-related add-ons, the Reds appear determined to continue strengthening their squad.

Their ability to spend has been aided by a relatively quiet approach in last summer’s and January’s transfer windows. In addition, the club’s budget has received a boost through player exits, including the sales of Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold, along with the expected departure of Jarell Quansah.

Liverpool are entering a period of uncertainty when it comes to the centre-back position, as there are currently no guarantees regarding the long-term futures of any of the four central defenders who were part of the squad last season.

Quansah is on his way out, while Joe Gomez missed the final four months of the previous campaign due to a hamstring injury that required surgery. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konaté is approaching the final year of his contract.

Although Virgil van Dijk signed a two-year extension in April, he will turn 34 next month. While his performances remain strong, Arne Slot will likely be eager to bring in a younger option like 24-year-old Guehi to ensure greater long-term stability at the heart of the defence.
