Darwin Nunez Replacement: Liverpool Bosses Discuss £650,000/week Target “During a High-ranking Meeting”

Liverpool have reportedly held talks over the potential signing of Victor Osimhen as they continue to evaluate options to replace Darwin Nunez, with four other strikers also under consideration.

Nunez, formerly of Benfica, has established himself as one of the most thrilling and unpredictable forwards to play in Liverpool colours in recent years.

However, his lack of consistent finishing has cast doubt on whether he can reach the elite level the club envisioned when they paid £85 million for his services.

As a result, the Reds are now exploring the leading striker options across Europe. While Alexander Isak would appear the most like-for-like alternative, Liverpool are unlikely to meet the £150 million valuation placed on the Swedish striker — especially in a summer when they are also expected to invest £126 million in signing Florian Wirtz.

The arrival of the German playmaker alone could significantly boost Liverpool’s attacking threat, potentially helping them lead the Premier League in goals for a second successive season.

Liverpool Discuss Signing Victor Osimhen After He Rejected £650,000/week Saudi Salary

A report by Danny Rust and Dean Jones for GiveMeSport claims that Liverpool have explored the possibility of signing Victor Osimhen, following reports that the Nigerian striker turned down a staggering £650,000-a-week offer from Saudi Arabia.

They report: “Osimhen’s name was mentioned as a potential target during a high-ranking meeting at Liverpool last week but there remains a slim chance of him ending up in the Premier League as his camp have conceded that Turkish side Galatasaray are expected to win the race for his signature.

“Osimhen’s name has cropped up since Liverpool have turned their attentions towards recruiting a proven goalscorer, but his wage demands would be a significant stumbling block and Galatasaray are attempting to tie up a deal after he enjoyed a prolific loan spell with them during the 2024/25 campaign.”

A separate report, however, indicates that Liverpool are not actively pursuing Victor Osimhen and are instead focusing on four alternative attacking options.

Ben Jacobs, writing for talkSPORT this week, revealed that the Reds are currently targeting Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, and Joao Pedro.

Liverpool have raised eyebrows with their apparent readiness to break the Premier League transfer record to secure Florian Wirtz, especially after reports suggested they were unwilling to spend over £100 million on Isak.

It’s possible that Arne Slot prioritises signing a world-class playmaker over a clinical finisher, particularly when he already has one of Europe’s most prolific forwards in Mohamed Salah at his disposal.
