Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen Could Strike Second Transfer Deal in Florian Wirtz Talks

It has been a hectic summer of negotiations between Liverpudlians and Bayer Leverkusen. Following the confirmation of a £29.5 million agreement for Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpudlians are now reportedly close to completing a remarkable £126 million deal for Florian Wirtz.

Despite these major developments, it seems the communication lines between the two clubs could remain open throughout the transfer period, as a third player is now being linked in discussions.

However, unlike Frimpong and Wirtz, this potential move would involve a Liverpool player heading in the opposite direction to join the Bundesliga side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen have identified Jarell Quansah as a potential signing to reinforce their defence. Having lost Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich following the expiration of his contract, the German champions are now actively seeking reinforcements at centre-back.

Quansah established himself within Liverpool’s senior squad during Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign at the helm.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old found opportunities limited under new manager Arne Slot. He made 25 appearances in all competitions but only featured 13 times in the Premier League, starting in just four of those matches.

With a pivotal stage in his career approaching, Quansah may consider leaving Anfield to secure more consistent playing time.

Bayer Leverkusen, now led by former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, could present an ideal environment for his development, given their strong reputation for nurturing elite-level talent in European football.

Quansah is not the only Liverpool player linked with a potential departure, as Harvey Elliott is also reportedly being monitored. Similar to his colleague, Elliott had restricted involvement during Slot’s debut season, playing 28 matches across various competitions.

In a recent interview, the midfielder suggested he may evaluate his options in the coming weeks and months. Elliott stated: “After my injury, I think it was always going to be hard. I hoped I would have got some more opportunities — but football is football.

“I thought [the PSG game in which he scored a late winner off the bench] was an opportunity for me to get a start and showcase what I can do and just get a nice run out, but the boss is the boss.

“He’s the man in charge. He’s the reason why we’ve won the league, because of his decisions. His decisions were not to start me — I can’t complain.”

The initial phase of the transfer window has shut ahead of the Club World Cup, with transactions permitted to resume between June 16 and September 1.
