Liverpool Should Cancel Florian Wirtz Deal and Use £150m to Sign These Three Players Instead

What initially seemed like a clever swoop ahead of Manchester City and Bayern Munich is quickly becoming a costly pursuit for Liverpool.
After seeing two offers turned down, the Reds may have to pay over £126 million for Florian Wirtz — a figure that would not only shatter their own transfer record but also set a new benchmark for the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
But is Wirtz truly worth such a fee? That’s the question many Liverpool fans will be pondering throughout the season. For slightly more than what the Premier League champions might spend on the German midfielder, Liverpool could instead secure three players capable of strengthening their starting lineup.
Ederson – Atalanta
We begin with a player who has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, having previously attracted interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Following another standout campaign with Atalanta in Serie A, Ederson now appears ready to take the next step to a club of Liverpool’s stature.
Bringing him in would add greater resilience to Liverpool’s midfield and offer valuable cover — and potentially competition — for Ryan Gravenberch.
Atalanta, who saw manager Gian Piero Gasperini depart for Roma earlier this summer, are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of £50 million.
Ousmane Diomande – Sporting CP
It may not be obvious just yet, but centre-back could soon become a concern for Liverpool if not addressed in time.
While Virgil van Dijk has signed a new deal, age is catching up with him, and both Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah have been linked with potential moves away this summer.
Backing out of the Wirtz pursuit would release significant funds, which could instead be used to bring in Ousmane Diomande — who is reportedly available for around £50 million.
However, Liverpool would need to act swiftly, with Arsenal and several other top European clubs also keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old defender.
Ademola Lookman – Atalanta
And finally, there’s Ademola Lookman — a player with Premier League experience and a strong desire to prove himself at the highest level.
The Nigeria international has flourished at Atalanta, most notably scoring a memorable hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final against Wirtz’s Leverkusen in Dublin.
Now approaching his peak years, Lookman is being linked with a return to the Premier League, following earlier, less impactful spells at Everton and Fulham.
He’s also expected to command a £50 million fee, but if Liverpool play their cards right, they could potentially persuade Atalanta to part with both Lookman and Ederson in a favourable package deal.
