Latest on Baby Dragged 15ft in His Buggy by Car During Liverpool Parade

A baby, who was dragged 15 feet in his buggy by a car during Liverpool parade, miraculously avoided serious injuries.

The infant’s father, Daniel Eveson, said he “thought he had lost everything” when the Ford Galaxy ploughed into a crowd that included his family during the Reds’ chaotic title-winning parade on Monday. Teddy was thrown down the road after the collision, while Daniel’s partner was trapped under the wheels of the car.

It has now been confirmed that the baby escaped without significant physical harm. A passer-by from a nearby restaurant quickly checked on Teddy and cared for him while Daniel rushed to help his partner. Daniel’s partner was taken to hospital, where she remained at least through Monday night.

What was meant to be a joyful celebration of Liverpool’s second Premier League title became the “worst day of his (Daniel’s) life”, the Reds supporter said:

“To me looking and finding his pram. To not knowing if he was alive. To seeing him alive. It was a lot to take on… I thought I had lost everything, I really did.”

Teddy was “thrown around 15 feet down the road” in his buggy. It is believed he stayed inside the pram, which helped cushion him from further impacts. He reportedly did not require hospital treatment.

However, speaking to the BBC, Daniel, from Telford, Shropshire, continued: “I don’t honestly believe I will be able to go to a parade or celebration like that ever again. Because there will always be that fear in the back of my mind that anything can happen and we might not be in control.”

Around 50 individuals, including children, were injured in total, as confirmed by emergency services. By Tuesday afternoon, 11 people were still receiving treatment in hospital for a range of injuries.

A 53-year-old man was taken into custody on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of drugs. The individual, who is from West Derby, Liverpool, remains in police custody and has been interviewed.

According to Merseyside Police, the man, described as a white British national, was believed to have been the driver of the vehicle. It is thought the car managed to follow an ambulance that was responding to a medical emergency involving a heart attack patient after a roadblock was temporarily lifted.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stood by the police operation during the parade, explaining to reporters that the force had made plans for “all contingencies,” which included road closures and the presence of armed officers.

Another Liverpool fan recounted how he felt fortunate to have survived after attempting to stop the vehicle with his hands during the Reds’ title-winning parade. Jack Trotter spent the night in hospital following the incident.

The vehicle had driven into a crowd, resulting in more than 50 people, including Jack, requiring medical attention in various hospitals across Liverpool. Jack said:

“When it sort of got to my level, the car had slowed down and I put my hands up, sort of to protect myself but also to try to say to him ‘stop.'”
