Liverpool are reportedly now “confident” of completing a deal for a “superb” Premier League player, in addition to Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz.
On Friday, reports suggested that the Reds have emerged as strong favourites to secure the signing of Wirtz this summer, which would represent a club-record transfer.
Fabrizio Romano has also shared a positive update on Liverpool’s pursuit of the German, revealing on X that a “formal approach” has already been made.
“Liverpool have made formal approach to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz! After initial green light from the player, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are in talks over transfer fee/package. Liverpool want the deal to be done very soon, not a long saga – to avoid surprises.”
A signing of Florian Wirtz would send shockwaves across Europe, given that the Bayer Leverkusen star is considered among the best attacking players in the world. However, Liverpool have also received a positive update regarding another target.
According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool are “confident” of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. The report suggests that the Reds have the financial strength to meet Newcastle’s asking price for the player this summer.
The Swedish striker is reportedly valued at £120m, which raises questions about whether Liverpool could afford both him and Wirtz. Nevertheless, sporting director Richard Hughes is currently in excellent form and appears eager to strengthen the squad.
It is difficult to envision Liverpool spending over £100m on both Isak and Wirtz, yet it remains an incredibly exciting prospect, showcasing the club’s ambition as the summer transfer window approaches.
The Newcastle striker would be an ideal fit to spearhead the Reds’ attack, having scored 23 Premier League goals this season and earning high praise from Magpies legend Alan Shearer.
