Arne Slot’s ‘Extra Weapons’ Vow Coming True as Liverpool on Verge of Two Transfers

Arne Slot has used new Liverpool signing Federico Chiesa sparingly this season, but he seems to have a clear plan to bolster his squad over the summer.
The Liverpool manager has hinted at adding more firepower to his group, and it looks like the Reds are moving swiftly in the transfer market. These early moves aim to give Slot the ability to rotate his players more effectively next season and prevent a repeat of the dip in form that led to their Champions League exit and Carabao Cup final defeat.
Slot’s side secured the Premier League title in dominant fashion, yet there were times when they looked capable of sweeping several trophies. However, a shortage of squad depth and evident fatigue among regulars ultimately proved costly, with Slot showing hesitation in turning to Chiesa and other fringe players.
“As we all know, we went out of the cup in Plymouth, and against PSV (in the Champions League’s league phase) we lost, which wasn’t an important game anymore,” Slot said. “And I think I made six substitutions against Paris Saint-Germain, where the extra time wasn’t our best period of the game.
“If I look at the way we think about next season and our squad, these are things that are on my mind. I think we can find one or two extra weapons that this team doesn’t have.”
The first reinforcements appear set to arrive at full-back, an area where Liverpool faced scrutiny earlier in the campaign.

Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly close to completing a £30 million switch from Bayer Leverkusen, while negotiations are ongoing regarding a potential deal for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, who featured as full-backs in Liverpool’s Champions League finals under Jurgen Klopp in 2018, 2019 and 2022, have remained regular starters this season. However, Alexander-Arnold has confirmed he will depart at the end of his contract and will not be part of the squad next term.
Robertson has continued to occupy the left-back position, although signs of decline have emerged, with Kostas Tsimikas seldom relied upon in high-stakes matches.
On the opposite flank, Alexander-Arnold’s understudy Conor Bradley has endured an injury-hit season, leading to players such as Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah being deployed out of position.
Despite his fitness setbacks, Bradley remains part of Liverpool’s future plans. The Northern Ireland defender has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract and is expected to battle Frimpong for a place in the starting line-up next season.
When asked what he wants to achieve after signing his extension, Bradley said: “To play even more games but also to win more trophies. I think the whole point of playing football is obviously to win trophies and be successful.
“So the more of them we can win, the better it will be for me and the whole team. Hopefully if we can keep doing that it’ll be a good next few years at the club.”
