Liverpool Set to Save Millions in Transfer Market as Player Returns to Anfield

Liverpool are anticipated to make significant investments at the end of the season, with Arne Slot recently suggesting that a major squad overhaul is on the horizon, despite their Premier League title triumph.
The club is looking to strengthen in both defence and attack, with several high-profile departures also being considered.
Reports have linked Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez with potential summer exits, meaning attacking reinforcements would be necessary should any of those players be sold.
Likewise, defenders Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez, and Ibrahima Konate are attracting interest from other clubs and could be replaced if suitable offers are received.
In addition to reshaping his starting lineup, Slot is eager to bolster the depth of his squad. However, unlike the previous summer, the Dutch manager might not prioritise a big-name midfield acquisition, thanks to Ryan Gravenberch’s resurgence.
Gravenberch has shown marked improvement during his time at Anfield and has made the defensive midfield role his own. Rather than searching for another first-choice option in that position, the club may instead look for a player who can provide reliable cover – a role that Stefan Bajcetic appears well suited to fill.
Bajcetic was loaned to Red Bull Salzburg last summer but made only 19 appearances before being recalled and sent on another loan to Las Palmas for the rest of the season.
Returning to Spain has proven to be a fruitful move, as the youngster has become a regular fixture in midfield under manager Diego Gomez.
This consistent playing time is proving valuable for the 20-year-old, especially after his recovery from an adductor injury that sidelined him for several months two years ago. His recent performances could be enough to earn him a place in Liverpool’s squad for the upcoming campaign.
Should the Reds decide to retain Gravenberch as their main defensive midfielder, Slot might conclude that Bajcetic can offer sufficient cover when needed, eliminating the need for a costly signing. Wataru Endo remains another option in the No. 6 role, though there is still uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at the club.
By opting against signing a new midfielder, Liverpool could free up additional funds to strengthen their transfer budget.
The club has recently been linked with Alexander Isak, and it’s well known that Newcastle are unlikely to consider selling the forward unless a substantial offer is made – a scenario that may become more realistic if players like Bajcetic are integrated into the squad.
